Future Faces of CrossFit

One of CrossFit Optimistic’s favorite programs to host each summer is our Kids & Teens sessions. Seeing the joy in their faces when they do the same workouts as their parents, sharing their feeling of success when they master a brand new movement, and just the infectious energy of our youngest Optimists make these summer sessions simply the best.

My favorite part is when the kids are playing a warm up game, and they don’t even know they’re doing CrossFit, they’re just having fun! A staple game we play is a relay race because we can incorporate different movements (air squats, lunges, climbing over or under), it inspires friendly competition, and they have fun while they’re doing it.

– Coach Forrest

CrossFit, at its core, is infinitely scalable. We apply this to CrossFit Kids & Teens by often taking the same workout that the adult classes did that day and modifying movements so that young athletes can complete the same WOD. Coach Forrest laughs, “I love hearing stories of how these WODs spark family conversations. Who did which workout faster, the kid or the parent? To bring the joy of CrossFit home, it just doesn’t get better than that.”

Here’s a glimpse of workouts young Optimists tackled this summer!

and some Good Ole Fun!

Any one, at any age, can do CrossFit, and it warms our hearts that these kids are learning this at a young age. When you teach children the importance of fitness early, they can understand how necessary it is to stay moving! We want our CrossFit Kids to take care of their bodies and grow into healthy adults. “A kid that exercises is better prepared for future challenges like sports, the mental grind of homework, AND they build confidence.”
